Hi, I am Dónal Boyle

I’m a software engineer and manager with almost 20 years in the trenches - writing code, leading teams, and shipping products that solve real problems. I care a lot about keeping things practical and efficient, cutting through the noise, and helping good people do their best work. Tech for the sake of tech doesn’t interest me. Making things useful does.

After plenty of time on the corporate ladder, I’ve realized I’m happiest when I’m doing things that matter to me: being present, staying competent, having agency, connecting with people, and always exploring. I focus on what’s actually useful and what gives me more time for the things I care about outside of work.

When I’m not working, I’m probably sailing, messing around with boats, learning something new, or figuring out what comes next. I like solving real-world problems, whether that’s fixing systems or planning the next adventure. If you want to talk shop, swap sailing stories, or just connect on something that’s not pure corporate BS, reach out.
